JADEN PÈPLA
Our Story
Feeding The Future of Haiti
Jaden PèpLa was founded upon the vision of Kenel Piere and his desire to give back to his beloved country of Haiti.
Kenel, born in Hinche (Central Plateau) was the oldest son of a carpenter and his caretaker mother, whom he joined as a child tending to her small plot of farmland just on the outskirts of their town.
At 16, Kenel moved to an orphanage to continue his education and during that time, taught himself english and made friends with may of his visitors who eventually helped him attend the University of Portland to receive his degree in sustainable agriculture. During this time, he learned the importance of food, nutrition, and many agricultural techniques.
When it was time to return home, Kenel wanted to bring back all he learned during his time in school to feed and those in his country and teach farmers how to grow nutritional food for their communities.
Thanks to the generous contribution of those in the Portland area (and beyond) Kenel was able to purchase a plot of land in 2016.
Since this time, Kenel has begin cultivating the soil for his first harvest, which will primarily glow black beans and moringa trees, which are known for their high nutritional value to mothers and infants. His dream to use this land to grow food for his people and provide education to Haitian farmers.
In 2018, Jaden PèpLa was established as a 501(c)3 non-profit which will raise money through donations, the sale of products, and other means to support "The Peoples Garden" and it's activities.
